Norman Coates| UNCSA Director of Lighting
Norman Coates earned a B.A. from Temple University. He has worked as a lighting designer for Broadway shows including "The News" and "Prince of Central Park" and for Off-Broadway shows including "Here Are Ladies," "Diversions and Delights," "Blood Knot," and "Limbo Tales.” He also designed Richard Harris' international tour of "Camelot." Mr. Coates’ regional theatre credits include Triad Stage, Great Lakes Theater Festival, PlayMakers Repertory. He has also designed for Opera Omaha, Fort Worth Opera, and Piedmont Opera Theatre. Mr. Coates is a member of United Scenic Artists (USA) and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA).

Paul Gregory | Guest Light Artist | New York, NY
Paul Gregory is the founder and president of Focus Lighting, Inc. of New York City. He has spent the last twenty years revealing and highlighting architecture by "painting pictures with light." Paul has won numerous awards recognizing his work including multiple Lumen Awards for projects such as the Entel Tower in Chile and FAO Schwarz - NYC, as well as Lighting Dimension Magazine's "Lighting Designer of the Year." Recently Paul has worked on the exterior lighting of Milwaukee’s Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, as well as the redesign of the Times Square New Years Eve Ball - celebrating the 100th and 101st anniversary of the event.

Jonathan Speirs | Guest Light Artist | United Kingdom
Jonathan Speirs is a Director of Speirs and Major Associates of Edinburgh and London, UK. A qualified architect, he has spent the last 25 years working in over 50 countries around the world with the magical and powerful medium of light. A multiple award winner for his work including this years prestigious IALD Radiance Award for Barajas International Airport, Madrid, Spain and the FX Awards best lighting project of 2008 for the Armani/Ginza Tower, Tokyo, Japan. He is also a recipient of the Lighting Dimension’s "Lighting Designer of the Year."

Sean Beach | Senior Designer | Denver, CO
Sean is a fourth year undergraduate lighting design student who recently designed Ah, Wilderness! at UNCSA. Sean has worked for a number of years with the Denver Center Theater Company and has just designed Elixer of Love for the UNCSA School of Music.

Alex Fogel | Senior Designer | Verona, NJ
Alex is a senior lighting design student from Verona, NJ. Alex's passion for theater started at an early age; working on productions in high school and in the New York area reinforced his interest in lighting, leading him to UNCSA. As a senior, Alex is thrilled to explore architectural lighting design on this project. He last designed Street Scene for the UNCSA School of Music, and is currently designing Our Country's Good for the UNCSA School of Drama.

Michael Kohler | Senior Designer | Raleigh, NC
Michael was last seen designing Sunday in the Park with George, as well as Fall Dance 2007. Michael loves ironing out the technical details of lighting and projection systems and was the head electrician for Balm in Gilead, last winter. He is currently working on Triad Stage's production of The Blonde, the Brunette, and the Venfeful Redhead.

Brad Peterson | Project Coordinator, Senior Designer | Charlotte, NC
Brad is thrilled to have had the opportunity to work on this project with Paul and Jonathan, including working at Focus Lighting in NYC with Paul Gregory for the duration of this project. Brad designed Trojan Women and On the Razzle for UNCSA and has worked for The Santa Fe Opera and Music Theatre of Wichita. He will be designing Spring Dance 2009 in May 2009. Thanks to Suzanne, Gilbert, Norman, Paul, and Jonathan.

Paola Rodriguez | Senior Designer | Orlando, FL
Paola was last seen designing Winter Dance 2009 for the UNCSA School of Dance. Recently, Paola was the Associate Lighting Designer to John McKernon on UNCSA's 2008 production of The Nutcracker Ballet.

Samuel Rushen | Senior Designer | Springfield, MO
Samuel is thrilled to be involved with this project, and working with lighting outside of the theatrical environment. Samuel last designed Bus Stop for the UNCSA School of Drama in 2008. He is thankful for the experience, as it opened his eyes to a new section of the lighting design industry.
